Alexander, Tyler

Deceased: Tyler Alexander was born on October 8,1941 to Jeanne T. Alexander and Kenneth Stewart Alexander in Kansas City, Missouri. Tyler was a Captain in the US Marine Corp and served as a Marine Pilot in Vietnam from 1967-1969. His military awards include the distinguished Flying Cross, the Purple Heart, One Single Mission Air Medal, and the 35 Strike/Flight Air Medal, along with the Presidential Unit Citations and other Unit Citations. His father, Kenneth was also a pilot with the famed Flying Tigers of the Burma/China Theater led by noted Gen Claire L. Chennault. Tyler Alexander, age 80, passed away on March 2, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeanne and Kenneth Alexander (who was reported missing in action in July 1944.) Tyler is survived by his beloved wife Susan Alexander and two daughters, Michelle Van Stone (Stephen) of Houston, Texas and Anna Smith (Steve) of Chicago, Illinois; granddaughter, Kelly Van Stone of Houston, Texas and Austin Stock, and Skyler Stock of Chicago, Illinois; and a host of other relatives and friends Published by Houston Chronicle on Mar. 10, 2022.

Algoso, Allan

Deceased: Passed away on November 27, 2022. Al was born in Los Angeles in 1942. He spent 20 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in Vietnam and in the White House, before retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. In his second career, he founded a technology company (TWD & Associates, Inc.) and was on the founding board of John Marshall Bank. He is survived by his wife, Donna Algoso; his brother, Vincent McAulay; his sister and brother-in-law, Toni and Frank Hedrick; his children and daughters-in-law, Teresa Algoso, William and Anne Algoso, and Dave Algoso and Annie Coombs; and his four grandchildren: Sebastian, Horatio, Frances, and Jonah. Allen, Jr., Bernard

Deceased: Bernie died of COPD on October 22, 2018. Bernie graduated from Hobart College and Georgetown Law before joining our Class in platoon D-1 at OCS and platoon Echo-1 at TBS. He served in Vietnam in a legal capacity. He was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat Distinguishing "V" for his service in Vietnam. Bernie will be buried with full military honors at Miramar National Cemetery in separate private service.

A life-long resident of San Clemente, CA, Bernie was active in community affairs serving on the Board of the San Clemente Chamber of Commerce for over 30 years. He also a member of the Kiwanis Club, serving a term as President. Bernie was also on the Board of the Boys and Girls Club and a was a leading member of a social group known as the San Clemente Dons.

Alonzo, Jose

Deceased:

Colonel Jose G. Alonzo, U.S. Marine Corps, Retired, went to the Lord on January 3, 2020 at the age of 79. He was born on December 13, 1940 in Musquiz, Coahuila, Mexico. He is preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Socorro Alonzo; brothers Juan, Hilario and Dionisio Alonzo; sisters Asuncion Alvarez and Aurora Vallejo.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Irma Luna Alonzo; daughters, Lisa Belus and Michelle Huff; son, Joey Alonzo; grandchildren Carissa Huff, Billy Huff, Jakob Alonzo, Amelie Alonzo, Michael Huff, James Huff, Lauren Huff; brother, Arturo G. Alonzo; and sister-in-law, Amparo Alonzo (wife of Dionisio).

Jose completed secondary schooling in Mexico and came to Uvalde, Texas at the age of 15. He attended 8th grade at Sacred Heart Catholic School and graduated from Uvalde High School in 1961. He earned a bachelor's degree in education from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. He later received master's degrees from Pepperdine University and the University of Texas in San Antonio.

Jose joined the Marine Corp in October of 1965. His military career took him all over the United States as well as several overseas assignments, including Iceland, Turkey, Greece, England, Germany, Central America and South America. Upon graduation from Officer's Candidate School, Jose served the U.S. Marine Corp as a Logistic Officer, Supply Officer and Basic Signals Intelligence/Electronics Warfare Officer. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam. His decorations and citations include the National Defense Service Medal, Several Marksmanship Badges, Vietnam Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Vietnam Commendation Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation (Gallantry Cross Medal color with palm), Navy Commendation Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Legion of Merit, Overseas Service Ribbon and many other decorations.

Upon his military retirement in 1994, he went into public education as a teacher, vice principal and principal. He also served as a counselor for veterans of the armed services at San Antonio College for several years. His hobbies included Bible study and dinner groups, socializing, volunteering with Meals On Wheels and traveling all over the country. He was a voracious reader, an avid gym-goer and as a lover of history, participated in a history club.

Though Jose experienced a life filled with achievements and accolades, he remained a kind, and tender man, never forgetting his humble beginnings. He was completely devoted to the love of his life, Irma, and he loved his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His smile and warm embrace will be missed by his family.

Anderson Jr., Charles O. "Charlie"

Deceased: Charles Otis Anderson, Jr., 77, husband of Mary Ann McCall Anderson, died Friday, October 18, 2019, at McLeod Regional Center in Florence. Born March 27, 1942, in LaGrange, Georgia, he was a son of the late Charles Otis Anderson, Sr. and the late Sarah Cross Anderson. He was a 1964 graduate of The Citadel and a US Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War. He is survived by his wife of Summerton; two sons, Andrew Anderson (Catherine) of Charleston and Craig Lillenthal (Jackie) of Summerville; four grandchildren, Taylor Lillenthal, Craig Jordan Lillenthal, Charlie Anderson and George Anderson; and a sister, Alice Anderson of Atlanta, Georgia.OCS: A-4

Aulik, Jaak

Deceased:Captain Jaak Aulik, 84, died peacefully in his sleep on August 3, 2024. A decorated veteran of the Vietnam War, he served as a Marine and was awarded the Purple Heart. Born on July 29, 1940, in Rakvere, Estonia, Jaak was the son of Voldemar and Paula Aulik. In 1944, his family fled Estonia. Then, in 1949, at the age of nine, under the sponsorship of the Lutheran church, Jaak and his family were welcomed to Holdrege, Nebraska. He graduated as Valedictorian from Holdrege High School and later earned a degree in physics from Nebraska Wesleyan University. In 1965, driven by a desire to give back to his adopted country, he enlisted in the Marines. Jaak was soon sent to Officer Training School at Quantico, where he graduated as Honor Guard and had the honor of escorting at the Cherry Blossom Festival. He served 13 months in combat in Vietnam. Following his honorable discharge, in 1969, Jaak accepted an engineering position with AT&T in San Francisco. This led to various positions with AT&T across different U.S. cities. His favorite role was negotiating financial agreements between AT&T and other countries to settle payments for telephone traffic. AT&T also sponsored him for a fully-paid assignment at Harvard University, where he wrote and published a book titled “Financial Structures in Competitive Telecommunications”. BIn 1985, he met the love of his life, Bonne, and they married soon after. They lived in Morris Plains, NJ, before moving to a rural home in Litchfield County, Connecticut, in 2007. Jaak and Bonne shared a loving life together and made friends around the world. Jaak’s presence was a blessing to many, and he will be dearly missed. Known for his generosity, he often picked up the check during meals or offered encouraging words to those he met. Jaak is survived by his wife Bonne; her children, David Luck and Melody Serra; his sister, Tiina Aulik-Adams, and many nieces, nephews, and grand children OCS: A-2
